simple: if we can grow it, make it, or source it nearby, we will. No faff, no fuss — just honest
ingredients treated with care.
Every meal at Oaklands tells you something about the land you’re on. We believe that matters.

Regenerative Farming — Why It's On
Your Plate
Oaklands is a working regenerative farm. That means we are not just taking from the soil — we
are actively putting back. Composting, cover cropping, rotational grazing, raw milk from
hormone-free, antibiotic-free animals who eat grass the way cows were supposed to.
Industrialised farming has caused enormous damage to the soil, our food, and our health. We
made a decision a long time ago to do things differently. It takes longer. It costs more. It tastes
incomparably better.
When you eat at Oaklands, you are eating food that was farmed with intention. Food grown in
living soil, under the Drakensberg sky, by people who understand what is at stake if we keep
doing things wrong.
That is not just a marketing line. It’s simply the truth.
Breakfast — Worth Getting Up For
Farm eggs. Sourdough bread from our own mother culture. Raw milk or kefir from our beloved dairy cows, alongside homemade muesli, poached pears, and preserves.
It’s a proper breakfast — green bowls, Eggs Benedict, farm sausage and bacon — what more could one wish for?

The kind of breakfast enjoyed in the sunny dining room or on the verandah that holds you well past noon.


Dinner — Farm Style, No Pretension
Our lunches and dinners are led by what the farm and the valley are offering on the day. Chef Johnson Ndlovu takes immense joy in presenting dishes that are quite simply sublime — unfussy, seasonal, deeply flavourful, and always worth sitting down for.
Everything is fresh, hearty, and rooted in honest farming. Food grown and prepared with care, free from the excesses of industrial agriculture and full of the kind of flavour that only comes from
ingredients raised properly.
